The Brhadaranyaka Upanishad (English) (Paperback)
The Brhadaranyaka Upanishad, which forms the final portion of the Satapatha-Brahmana, is the greatest of the Upanishads by its size as well as substance. The whole composition is in prose, being here and there studded with a few verses. It is now available in two widely varying recensions known as Madhyandina and Kanva. This edition contains the Kanva version, as adopted by Sri Shankaracharya.
Swami Madhavananda, who was one of the Presidents of the Ramakrishna Order with great literary accomplishments, has worked on this English translation, mainly following Anandagiri’s gloss and occasionally Sureswarcharya’s Varttika and Vidyaranya’s Varttikasara.
Apart from the translations and notes, the translator has also given word-by-word meanings in the order of Sanskrit syntax to help the readers follow the text better .
